Mail Order Orthodontic Braces — Is it a Good Idea?

Following the spread of the Covid19 pandemic, people worldwide have found themselves stuck at home due to the months-long quarantine. With no access to orthodontic services, it's not surprising that so-called "mail-order braces" have been quickly gaining appeal.

Of course, ordering braces seem to be a good option considering the pandemic when you think about it. They're convenient and affordable, not to mention that some influencers have been saying good things about them on social media.

If you're thinking about getting mail-order braces, then you may be concerned about your smile. That said, now might not be an excellent time to seek out an alternative to orthodontic treatments. You might be stuck at home thinking that mail-order braces are your only option. That said, it cannot be denied that it's always best to your teeth checked first before undertaking any treatment (braces or otherwise).

Why it's still best to visit an orthodontic professional

Simply put, there is no alternative to an actual visit to an Orthodontists in Canberra. It's impossible to do an in-person test any other way. Starting a treatment plan without an examination could be destructive to your oral health and hygiene.

Lots of people attempt mail-order braces to conserve money. However, keep in mind that you will end up paying more money to fix the damage if you end up harming your teeth.

Also, consider that your dental expert's regular check-ups are required to ensure that the orthodontics treatment is progressing efficiently. There's none of that in the case of mail-order braces. Orthodontics monitor your development with treatment frequently, and you can't get that with mail-order.

Think about it — what if something goes wrong with your mail-order braces? Where can you turn to for help? You may not even understand there was a problem until irreversible damage has been done to your teeth.

What do dental experts have to say about mail-order braces?

The fact that your braces have not been sized accurately to shape and contour your teeth means that mail-order braces can ruin your smile. More importantly, it might adversely affect your oral health overall. Mail order braces can interfere with bite and mess up the alignment of your teeth.

Keep in mind that orthodontists have spent years mastering the process of carefully realigning teeth and bone structure. Do you think that you can achieve the same result with mail-order braces?

Of course, you don't have to take our word for it. The American Dental Association (ADA) itself had issued a warning against the use of mail-order braces saying that they are unsafe and an improper form of dental treatment that is in no way sanctioned by the dental health organization.

Conclusion

There you have it — all you need to know about mail-order braces and why they're a terrible idea. As you may have already realized, mail-order braces are likely to cause more problems than it'll solve (if any). Even if it means waiting for the quarantine to end, it would still be best to see a real orthodontist and give your teeth the proper care and attention that it deserves.
