Liposuction vs CoolSculpting: Which One Is For Me?

Liposuction has been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures for several years. This surgical procedure permanently, safely and effectively eliminates fat and shapes the body contour. Minimally invasive or nonsurgical alternatives to liposuction have also become popular in recent years. Body contouring treatments like CoolSculpting do not require any anaesthesia, incisions and they have minimal downtime.

What is Liposuction?

During the liposuction procedure, an experienced board-certified cosmetic surgeon like Dr Scamp liposuction surgery Gold Coast will precisely and carefully remove excess fat through a small, hollow tube (cannula). Suction is applied as the surgeon moves the tube through the fat deposit, eliminating excess fat cells and sculpting a slimmer body contour.

Liposuction is effective at eliminating fat from the abdomen, arms, back, legs and neck. The procedure itself provides more dramatic results than non-invasive fat reduction procedures; but, it does have a longer recovery period and costs more than non-invasive procedures.

How does CoolSculpting Work?

Nonsurgical fat reduction treatments use different techniques to target and remove unwanted fat cells through a topical procedure rather than a surgical one.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is a fantastic option for individuals who are close to their target weight but want to cut down small, areas of fat on their thighs, abdomen or hips. This procedure uses a special device that cools unwanted fat cells without harming any of the surrounding tissues. The fat cells eventually die and are gradually flushed from the body. CoolSculpting is for individuals who are satisfied with their current weight but want to reduce fat in areas that are difficult to tone through diet and exercise. Results are typically seen after three months but results very from patient to patient.

Pros & Cons

- Invasiveness

Liposuction is more aggressive than non-invasive fat reduction procedures. Individuals often experience swelling, bruising and soreness for up to 10 days following the procedure. A CoolSculpting treatment is generally gentle with minimal discomfort during and after the treatment.

- Results

Liposuction results are seen right after the swelling dissipates and the treatment area heals, although the final result is generally not seen for six months. It takes longer to see results from CoolSculpting and results usually become noticeable in the weeks and months following the procedure.

- Downtime

Following a liposuction procedure, the healing process requires patients to avoid everyday activities for several days and to use caution when getting back into a regular exercise routine. There is no extended healing time with CoolSculpting and patients generally return to normal activities immediately, though slight swelling and soreness can be expected. Although your results won't be as noticeable with nonsurgical fat reduction, you can return to your daily routine much quicker.

Which is Right for Me?

Liposuction is often a great option for minimising larger fat deposits. The negative side to liposuction includes a greater risk for complications and a higher cost than noninvasive techniques.

Non-surgical fat reduction treatments may be a better choice for you have good skin elasticity, want to target smaller troublesome spots and if you are already at your ideal weight. However, several treatment sessions may be required, and the results will not be as dramatic.
